Woman damages spine after pier fall

A WOMAN was taken to hospital with suspected spinal injuries after falling of a pier on the Mornington Peninsula last night.

The woman, believed to be in her late 20s, fell off the Blairgowrie pier and into the water about 7.30pm.

A pair of doctors who were at the nearby yacht club stayed with the woman until help arrived, an emergency services spokesperson said.

Paramedics waded into the shallow water, put the woman on to a spinal board and carried her to shore.

She was flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

In the state’s north, a nine-month-old baby had a lucky escape after a car reversed over him yesterday afternoon.

A car at Time Out Resort in Koonoomoo, near Cobram, pulled out and hip the baby boy, leaving him with minor leg injuries and tyre marks on one hip.

He was conscious and breathing when paramedics arrived and was taken to the Goulburn Valley hospital in Shepparton.
